Health Ministries Certified Marketplace Navigators Matthew Ediger came to Hesston Public Library on Thursday, Dec. 12 for an evening session to answer questions on the Affordable Care Act insurance marketplaces and set up consultation appointments.
The deadline to register for federal insurance passed Dec. 23 for insurance to be applied beginning Jan. 1.
However, those who did not enroll in the federal exchange or did not acquire private health insurance will not be facing fines.
According to Ediger, an individual must be uninsured for three months of the year before federal fines are enacted.
“If you do not have insurance in January, you will not be fined. If you go three months of the year without insurance, then you will face a penalty. So if you purchase insurance in February, lose it in August, are uninsured the entire month of August and are uninsured again in November, then you can be fined,” he said.
