The Hesston Area Senior Center is hosting its first-ever Holiday Open House on Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The first-ever event will feature a number of local crafters, vendors and goods.
Hesston Area Senior Center Director Marla X said the event is an opportunity to get families into the Senior Center.
"The idea actually came up in a conversation between myself and a couple of the members – thought this would be a fun event and an opportunity to allow others to become acquainted with the nice facility and Center we have," she said.
While the event is free and open to the public, X said it is also a donation drive for the Hesston Resource Center.
"The event is free to attendees, but we would like them to bring a canned food item or other non-perishable to be donated to the Hesston Resource Center food pantry,” she said.
X said the event is not only a way to introduce the community to the Senior Center, but local in-home merchants as well.
"The event will raise some funds for the Center but is not intended to be a huge fundraiser, just a fun day for the community and a way to highlight area home-based and home-crafted businesses. We have vendors coming from here in town but also from Newton, Buhler, Andale, El Dorado, Halstead, Potwin, Bentley, Moundridge, Whitewater, Hillsboro and Hutchinson," she said.
X said once she and other committee members started contacting vendors, word spread quickly.
