Reel the ole time machine back to Friday, Aug. 31, 2012.
It might as well have been Friday the Thirteenth, the way it turned out.
The headline on the pregame story of the season grid opener against Halstead read: “Swathers To Start Season Against Dangerous Dragons”.
It turned out to be rather prophetic.
Late in the fourth quarter, the Swathers led 26-24. They had retaken the lead in a seesaw game with only 2:40 left.
But the Dragons had one last gasp left.
They methodically marched down the field to the Swather 16-yard line. That was where Dragon quarterback Jonah McKee lost his helmet. According to the rules, he had to leave the field for at least one play. There were nine seconds left in the game.
