The first edition of the HMS Swather has hit circulation at Hesston Middle School
For the past three weeks, students have been taking part in a new exploratory group focused on journalism.
Staff sponsor for the journalism exploratory Gaye Pennington said the six-week course engages students.
“There are kids who are very excited about writing. This give them real-world choices. When kids have choices and are part of the decision-making process they are more responsible for their work. This is a chance for kids to explore and have fun, but it still has a lot of academic value,” she said.
Pennington said the decision to run a print edition, rather than publish online was an easy one.
