The Hesston Area Senior Center hosted the annual Potato Bar on Friday, March 21.
The community-wide meal is a major fundraiser for the Senior Center. This year the event brought in $1,200 with 175 attending according to Director Marla Sharp.
In addition to the potato bar, the Senior Center kept March Madness college hoops action on the big screen so guests would not miss a minute of basketball action.
This year, Hesston College Disaster Management students came to volunteer.
“This was a service project we had an opportunity to take part in. I came to see how I could help,” said student Kendrick Mast.
Volunteer Louise Smith said she was please to take part in this year’s Potato Bar.
“This is the one highlight of the year – even for those of us who aren’t Irish. It is one of our most important fundraisers and it is an annual thing,” she said.
Diner Bill Zurcher said the event was an opportunity to showcase Hesston’s hospitality.
“Bethel College is hosting a Church-wide gathering and we brought some of the visitors up here for the Potato Bar. They seem to be enjoying it,” he said.
