Pigskin Picks Is Back

Posted 8/31/2017

Record Staff

The Hesston Record’s Pigskin Picks contest starts this week with a slate of 10 games and great prizes you can win.

The grand prize is two Chiefs tickets to a December game. This has been the prize the Record has offered for several years, and it has been popular among local football fans.

While the contest draws some experienced pickers every season, that doesn’t mean you don’t have a chance to win. Last year, Kurt Horst was the grand prize winner and entered for the first time and came out of no where to win it all.

There are also weekly prizes of $25 that can be spent with participating merchants in Hesston.

Record Publisher Robb Reeves said he will be picking the games again this year. “I enjoy picking the games and making it as hard for the players as I can. If the winner has three losses, I feel like I have done my part. It’s a fun contest.”

To enter look for the Pigskin Picks entry form in this week’s paper and turn it in to The Record before 5 p.m. Friday. You can also email our picks to us.

Little girls brought big spirit to Little Cheer Camp on Saturday morning. The Lil’ Cheer Campers will perform this Friday at half-time of the first Swather varsity football game of the season.

Nicole Roth, head coach of the Swather Cheer Squad, along with her seniors, Kayla Ewert and Sarah Teeter, led the Lil Cheer Camp experience for girls in Kindergarten through middle school.

“It’s a fun way to get the whole community involved - kindergarten through the seniors in high school- and get to know the kids and parents. And, it’s a great fundraiser to help the Hesston High cheer program,” said Roth.

Fabric Painting Wall Hanging Created To Commemorate Hesston

Posted 8/31/2017

Mary Ellen Gaeddert has created a “painting with fabric” to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Schowalter Villa’s Villa Days celebration. The wall hanging will be up for auction during the Home Sweet Hesston events later this month.

The wall hanging features images from across the community commemorating the community.

“I got the idea to just do the first building of Schowalter Villa. I couldn’t locate a picture of the building so I had to scrap that idea and go to the next one. It started to mushroom and talking to people and putting together what Hesston is all about,” she said.
