Lamb’s Last #GivingTuesday With Hesston Community Foundation

The Hesston Community Foundation will be going through a leadership transition on Jan. 1 as Director Susan Lamb steps aside and Shana Smith takes over the directorship. 

On Tuesday, Nov. 28, residents will have the opportunity to visit with Lamb at Hesston Public Library during her final GivingTuesday evening from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. 

“It’s a good time of year for people, after they’ve had a long weekend to enjoy family and count their blessings to support their community after the spending on Back Friday and Cyber Monday.

Thanksgiving Meal Cost Drops For First Time Since 2009

When sitting down to your annual Thanksgiving spread tomorrow, cost is no object when faced with your favorite holiday meal. 

However, every year The Hesston Record heads to the local grocery store, Weaver Grocers, to check out the price of a traditional Thanksgiving feast. The Record has been tracking the cost of turkey and all the trimmings since 2009. 

Find out the price of this year’s feast in comparison to turkeys past.

Sending Christmas Spirit To Soldiers Stationed Overseas

Hesston Area Senior Center is ensuring 116 soldiers stationed overseas for the holidays will have a Merry Christmas through Operation Christmas Stocking. 

The Holiday tradition for the senior center collects thousands of items and packs the 100-plus boxes each year to be sent to young men and women who will be away from their families this holiday. 

First time box packer Larry Fuqua said he and his wife, board member Becky Ruth, were pleased to see the number of people who come out to help.

Last Wednesday evening, Hesston Mennonite Brethren Church congregants got into the Christmas spirit, packing boxes for Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan’s Purse - an annual event to deliver gifts to children across the world. 

J.L. Martin, pastor of children and family at the church, said the evening was a way to bring all members of the congregation together. 

“It’s always fun for the families to come, everyone comes together, since we cancelled all our other Wednesday night activities. We enjoy that part of the evening is about spending time together,” he said.
