Chamber Kicking Off Save Your Receipts Nov. 1

This Wednesday, Nov. 1, begins the annual Save Your Receipts drive for the Hesston Chamber of Commerce.  

Chamber Director Becky Galloway reported last year’s receipts approached $50,000 in local spending during the January Chamber Luncheon. 

“Receipts for goods, services, doctor visits, donations and now the Holiday Marketplace at H.A.S. will all be eligible,” she said.

Emma Creek Quilt Guild Putting Work On Display

The Emma Creek Quit Guild is hosting its second annual Quilt Tour on Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

The Tour includes dozens of quilts located at five homes in Hesston, Newton and North Newton. 

Berniece Correll of Hesston and Judy Welfelt of Newton are co-coordinators of this year’s tour. 

“Everyone in the guild is going to participate by displaying quilts. There are 25-30 members in the guild,” she said.

Larks Returning To Hallowed Hardwoods

For Head Coach Dustin Galyon, the message has been clear to his Hesston College men’s basketball team; there is no comparing to the past seasons, this focus is on his 2017-18 Larks.

It’s the reason why the Larks have adopted the motto of “What have you done lately,” which is plastered on their practice jerseys. 

“I think we have some depth at guard and can really score the basketball,” he said. “I think we have quite a few guys who are interchangeable. The big question is ‘are we tough enough to guard?’ If we try to just outscore you, we’ll win some games, but if we can lock up and play good defense, with our offensive firepower we can do some fun things.”

Larks Looking Forward To Stronger Season

Call it an anomaly, call it a fluke, call it the result of a short recruiting season, but whatever it was, the result ended up the same; an 8-20 season.

Last year was the first time the Hesston College women’s basketball team failed to reach double digit wins, dating back to the mid-90s when the Larks could only manage seven wins.

Regardless of the previous season’s results, Head Coach Jeff Jacobs still felt the 2016-2017 squad played hard. Heading into the 2017-2018 season, the second year coach is even more excited for this year’s Lark team.

YAR to Host Magic Show and Community Information Night About Marijuana and Underage Drinking

Youth as Resources would like to invite all community members to their “Reveal the Truth” event on Nov. 3,  from 7-8 pm at Heritage Park.  

Join the discussion as YAR members share the truth surrounding marijuana and underage drinking.  After this discussion we are going to enjoy watching a Magic Show put on by Magician, Stephen Cabe.  

All community members young and old are welcome to enjoy the festivities and hot chocolate will be provided.  

The evening is sponsored by Mirror, Inc. and the Hesston Lion’s Club.
