City Rejects Offer From Graber Grain Farms LLC

On Monday evening, following a half-hour executive session - a meeting closed to the public - the Hesston City Council rejected an offer from Graber Grain Farms, LLC to settle a pending appeal to the district court.  

Councilman Clare Moore made the motion to reject the offer and was seconded by Councilman Larry Fuqua. The motion carried unanimously. 

On Wednesday, August 15, Graber Grain Farms LLC filed a motion for mediation with the Ninth Judicial District Court of Harvey County.

From Houston To Hesston, Lark Begins College Adventure

CHRISTIAN Polk moved from Houston, Texas to Hesston last week and has been enjoying the small-town atmosphere. CHRISTIAN Polk moved from Houston, Texas to Hesston last week and has been enjoying the small-town atmosphere. Christian Polk heard of Hesston College less than a year ago, but decided to move hundreds of miles away from his hometown of Houston, Texas to become a Lark. 

The freshman business major said while he is a long way from home, he is ready to start his collegiate career. 

Polk said he had never heard of Hesston, Kansas or Hesston College before being contacted via an app for golfers. 

Polk said after his initial visit, Hesston felt like a good fit for him. 

“Everyone seems really friendly and I’d like a smaller area,” he said. Polk said as a member of the golf team, he has already been out to Hesston Golf Park.

UNIQUE Froese moved in to Hesston College last week and is following in her family's footsteps as a Lark. UNIQUE Froese moved in to Hesston College last week and is following in her family's footsteps as a Lark. As a legacy student, Unique Froese said she made only one campus visit while looking at colleges - and that was to Hesston College.  

“I’ve known about it as long as I can remember. My aunts and uncles came here and played sports here,” said the 18-year-old from Cheraw, Colorado. 

Froese also earned a spot on the Larks Women’s basketball team. 

“It felt like it was right because my whole family when here, and when I got a spot on the basketball team, that was what I really wanted to do,” she said. 

Froese added she was, “very excited” about the sports facilities on campus. 

Being from Colorado, Froese said Hesston College was the right distance away from home.

KPV To Acquire The Hesston Record

Kansas Publishing Ventures (KPV) has entered into an agreement to purchase the The Hesston Record, Harvey County Independent and The Ledger newspapers from Robb and Martha Reeves of Hesston. Close date is set for Sept. 1.

KPV also recently acquired the McPherson News from Anne Heidel, who launched that paper about three years ago. Joey Young and Bruce Behymer are the owners of KPV.
