Hesston Mennonite Church Making Sure Kids Are Fed This Summer

DAYS: Monday and Friday 

LOCATION: Hesston Mennonite Church Education Hall 

TARGETING: Children 18 and under


Hesston Mennonite Church, a recipient of a Hesston Community Foundation grant, will be providing lunches to children across Hesston at the church on Mondays and Fridays.  

Keli Wray, one of the volunteers for the program, said her adult Sunday School class at Hesston Mennonite Church felt called to make a difference. 

“We applied for and received one of the grants through the Community Foundation, and that money will provide for the actual food costs, including our Sunday School class that will provide making the food, serving and doing the dishes,” said Wray. 

The Sunday School class said they have noticed a dramatic shift in Hesston socioeconomics.

Community Movie Nights Coming Soon

Jumanji (PG-13) will kick off the Community Movie Nights on June 8 at sundown. Jumanji (PG-13) will kick off the Community Movie Nights on June 8 at sundown. This summer, Hesstonians will again be able to experience the evenings of star-studded entertainment during the Summer Movie Nights. 

The Hesston Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with The Hesston Record will be hosting Summer Movie Nights beginning on June 8 with Dwane Johnson’s latest hit, Jumanji, which is rated PG-13.

Hesston Hosting Strategic Planning Meeting

Who: Any Resident In City Limits 


Community members are invited to help determine the next five years of planning for the Hesston Community. 

City Administrator Gary Emry said a Strategic Planning session will be hosted on June 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Hesston High School.  Any resident living within Hesston city limits is invited to attend. 

Emry said the session is a chance for all Hesstonians to gather and discuss the future of the community. No topics have been pre-determined, and community members will drive the conversation.

Sign Up Now For Citywide Garage Sales

Hesston Citywide Garage Sales are Friday and Saturday, June 8-9.

The Record is offering a garage sales kit to draw people to your sale. The kit includes two signs, balloons, and an ad in our special garage sale edition. The kits are $15.

Deadline to get a kit and an ad is Monday, June 4 at noon. To get a kit, come by the Record office at 345 Old Highway 81, next to First Bank.

Endorsement Letter Policy

Endorsement letters for a specific political candidate will be accepted only if the letter is signed with an individual’s name and community: (John Smith, Hesston) and if the writer is a subscriber to the newspaper in which the letter will appear.  

All letters must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. the Monday prior to publication. 

Editors reserve the right to hold letters that: use offensive language, attack the personal character of a candidate, or are deemed offensive at the Editor’s discretion.
